FAST START PROPELS OILERS TO VICTORY OVER STEELHEADS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 9, 2018

Tulsa opened up 3-0 lead in the first period and held off a late Idaho comeback to win Friday at CenturyLink Arena.

BOISE, ID – The Tulsa Oilers (5-1-4) jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead and hung on to beat the Idaho Steelheads (5-7-1) Friday 4-3 at CenturyLink Arena.

The Oilers struck early when Dylan Bredo fired a one-timer into the net on a power play 1:26 into the opening frame. It was Bredo’s first pro goal. Chris Forney made it 2-0 with his first career goal, a wrist shot from high in the slot that went over the glove of Steelheads goaltender Colton Point.

Tulsa made it 3-0 before the first period buzzer, when Kyle Rhodes skated into the Idaho zone and fooled Point with a low wrist shot right after an Oilers power play ended.

Steelheads defenseman Eric Sweetman spoiled Evan Fitzpatrick’s shutout bid in the second period, when the Idaho defenseman ripped a shot from the point through a screen and past the Oilers goaltender. But Tulsa extended its lead to 4-1 when Adam Pleskach lifted a shot under the glove of new Steelheads goaltender Ryan Faragher on a sharp angle shot from the left circle.

Idaho staged a late comeback, when Brad McClure scored on a 2-on-1 rush with 7:21 left in the game, and Steve McParland buried a power play goal 59 seconds later on a Steelheads 4-on-3 power play to bring the score to 4-3. Tulsa held on to earn the win, as Fitzpatrick stopped 33 of 36 to move to 2-0-2 on the season.

The Oilers and Steelheads face-off one more time Saturday at 8:10pm CT at CenturyLink Arena in Boise. Catch the action on The Sports Animal (99.9FM/1550AM), www.tulsaoilers.com, and ECHL.TV, with pregame coverage starting at 7:50pm CT.
