Tulsa led twice by two goals, but Idaho scored late in regulation to complete their comeback and wrapped up the win in a shootout.

Box Score

BOISE, ID – The Idaho Steelheads came from behind to tie the Tulsa Oilers late in regulation and finished the comeback by winning the shootout 2-0 to defeat the Oilers 4-3 Wednesday at CenturyLink Arena.

The Oilers and Steelheads exchanged 12 shots on goal and three power play opportunities in the opening period, but the only goal came from Tulsa Oilers forward Charlie Sampair on a short-handed rush up the right wing. Sampair snapped a quick shot over the blocker of Philippe Desrosiers to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead after one.

Kale Kessy enhanced Tulsa’s lead to 2-0 with a power play goal in the second period, but the Steelheads added a power play tally of their own when Brady Brassart tipped a shot past Oilers goaltender Jake Hildebrand from the edge of the crease. Idaho native Joey Sides again put Tulsa in front by a pair of goals with a highlight-reel marker late in the frame, but A.J. White brought the Steelheads back to within one, when he buried his own rebound before the end of the period.

Tulsa was preserving the win throughout most of the third period but a late penalty gave the Steelheads another power play, and Idaho capitalized for the second time, when Brassart redirected a centering pass from Steven McParland with 1:33 to play to force overtime with his second goal of the contest.

The Oilers were unsuccessful on an overtime power play for a second straight game, as neither team scored in the extra period. In the skills competition, Jefferson Dahl and Justin Parizek scored and Desrosiers stopped both Tulsa shooters to complete the comeback win for the Steelheads.

The Oilers and Steelheads battle two more times Friday and Saturday at CenturyLink Arena at 8:10pm CT. Catch all the action, starting at 7:50pm CT on www.tulsaoilers.com, The Sports Animal Radio Network (99.9FM/1550AM), or ECHL.TV.
