Tulsa, Okla. — Tulsa Oilers, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks and the AHL’s San Diego Gulls, and powered by Community Care, fight off the Wichita Thunder in a heavily action-packed third period to win 3-1 on the road.
At the 8:17 mark of the opening period, Lukas Jirousek, just as the Oilers’ penalty expired, dragged the puck on the backhand on a partial breakaway before lifting a backhand shot over the shoulder of Matt Davis to make it 1-0 Tulsa; Luc Salem recorded the lone assist. Later in the same frame, Ethan Benz delivered a shot off the left post, while Max Itagakicleaned up the ensuing mess, slamming the rebound in to make it 2-0 Oilers, 15:18 into the frame.
The second period saw no scoring as the Thunder outshot the Oilers 13-8, and a Wichita goal was waved off as the clock expired.
Just 0:53 into the final period, Wichita found the back of the net legally to cut the Oilers’ lead to 2-1, via Michal Stinil’s one-timer from the point. Tulsa would be outshot 21-8 in the third but survive and add an empty-net goal by Zachary Murray to solidify a 3-1 win, making it their fourth straight against Wichita and their fifth overall.
The Tulsa Oilers come home to face the Wichita Thunder on November 8 at the BOK Center. Puck drop is set for 3:05 p.m. CT.
