Tulsa, Okla. — Tulsa Oilers, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks and the AHL’s San Diego Gulls, and powered by Community Care, bounced back with their second victory of the season against Allen, behind a brilliant effort by Jake Sibell.
The first period finished scoreless, with Sibell recording 14 saves. Tulsa, despite good chances, went 0-for-2 on the power play, while Allen was held 0-for-1 on the man advantage.
The scoring began with Jay Dickman finding his first goal and point in an Oilers sweater, via a pass from the end wall to the slot by Max Itagaki, that Dickman snapped past the blocker side of Jesper Vikman to make it 1-0 Oilers, 2:05 into the middle frame. Jake Lee at the 7:19 mark of the second made it 2-0 Tulsa off a feed from the right circle by Nick Nardella, setting up Lee to snipe one past Vikman along the left-wing side. Allen snatched a goal back on a short-handed Riley Kidney tally to make it 2-1 entering the third period.
The Oilers struck quickly, just 1:02 into the final period after Dickman fed the puck from the left circle to the slot for a streaking Coulson Pitre, who deflected it just past Vikman’s left pad to make it 3-1 Tulsa. Sibell would record 16 saves in the third to solidify a 3-1 win for the Oilers, while earning him the first star of the game.
Tulsa records its second win of the season in what was its 900th ECHL game, including playoffs.
The Tulsa Oilers stay home to face the Wichita Thunder on October 29 at the BOK Center. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. CT.
