Tulsa, Okla. — Tulsa Oilers, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks and the AHL’s San Diego Gulls, and powered by Community Care, bury the Wichita Thunder in a full 60-minute effort resulting in a 6-0 victory at the BOK Center.
At the 8:23 mark of the first period, Jackson Niedermayer found his first goal of the season from a point shot that beat a screened Matt Davis to make it 1-0 Oilers. Later on with just 0:54 remaining in the opening frame, Nick Nardella scooped up the puck off a turnover and slid his shot past the pad of Davis from a low angle near the right post to record an unassisted goal to make it 2-0 Tulsa to end the first.
The second period began just 0:57 in with Tyler Poulsen roofing a one-timer from the left side of the slot off a feed by Niedermayer to push the Oilers' lead to 3-0. Tulsa would follow up at the 6:51 mark of the middle frame with a Lukas Jirousek goal, flicking a wrist shot after the puck banked off the left half-wall towards the net, beating Davis on the far side, making it 4-0 Oilers. The second period ended with one more Tulsa tally, thanks to Jay Dickman slamming a rebound home from the slot at the 14:13 mark, ending the second at 5-0.
Kyle Kukkonen recorded the only third-period goal, making it his second professional score and pushing the final to 6-0 Tulsa on a Thursday night.
The Tulsa Oilers stay home to face the Wichita Thunder on October 30 at the BOK Center. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. CT.
