Tulsa, Okla. — Tulsa Oilers, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks and the AHL’s San Diego Gulls, and powered by Community Care, are unable to overcome a large early deficit and came out on the wrong end of Friday's tilt with the Thunder.
Wichita opened the night with a goal from Samuel Huo, who dragged the puck from forehand to backhand from the right wing and tucked it inside the back left post past Tomas Suchanek's right pad to make it 1-0 Thunder, 3:30 into the game. The Thunder added a power-play goal with just 0:24 seconds left in the first frame via Kirby Proctor as he jumped on a loose puck in the slot, beating a screened Suchanek into the top right corner of the net, bringing the score to 2-0 Wichita.
After back-to-back Thunder goals to start the second from Jordan Biro and Robert Kincaid to make it 4-0 Wichita, the Oilers finally struck on the man-advantage at the 19:38 mark, thanks to a top-shelf wrist shot from Jake Lee from the left circle to end the second period at a score of 4-1 Thunder.
Ethan Scardina began the third period with a breakaway goal going against the grain to pop the puck into the top left corner to extend the Wichita lead to four goals once again, 5-1 Thunder 0:41 into the third.
The Oilers could not mount a comeback of any kind, leading to a 5-1 loss, pushing their record to 1-1-0-0 to begin the new season.
The Tulsa Oilers return home to face the Allen Americans on October 27 at the BOK Center. Puck drop is set for 10:35 a.m. CT.
