Tulsa, Okla. — Tulsa Oilers, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks and the AHL’s San Diego Gulls, and powered by Community Care, held on in a one-goal game long enough to extend the lead for a 3-0 win against the Thunder.
The only tally of the game’s first period came from a penalty shot awarded to Tulsa’s Coulson Pitre, who took the puck from center ice, slowly approached the top of the left circle, slightly centered his position, and snapped a wrist shot short-side past the glove of Connor Hasley to make it 1-0 Oilers at the 9:18 mark of the first frame.
After the Oilers were outshot by the Thunder 9-3, Jake Sibell kept the game’s score where it was heading into the final period of regulation.
Not until the 11:43 mark of the third did the game see another goal, this time via Zachary Murray on an unprotected net as Hasley attempted to recover back into his crease. Murray slammed in a goal from the slot from a feed by Sasha Mutala to make it 2-0 Tulsa. Mike McKee added an empty-net goal to finish off the night’s scoring, with an assist by Sibell, giving the Oilers a 3-0 victory on home ice.
Since giving up a short-handed goal in the second period of Tuesday’s game against Allen with 2:18 left, Sibell has put up 142:18 of shutout hockey over the course of more than two games, earning the first star of the game in three consecutive outings.
The Tulsa Oilers head to Kansas to face the Wichita Thunder on Halloween, October 31, at INTRUST Bank Arena. Puck drop is set for 2:05 p.m. CT.
