Tulsa, Okla. — Tulsa Oilers, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks and the AHL’s San Diego Gulls, and powered by Community Care, solidify their first road victory after trailing by two goals entering the third period before scoring three straight, including an OT winner by former Thunder forward Jay Dickman.
Tulsa snagged the first goal of the game just 2:34 into the opening period as John Lundy’s clean faceoff win set up a slapshot by Mike McKee from the point, banking off the goaltender Matt Davis’ blocker and popping over his shoulder to eventually bounce in across the goal line to make it 1-0 Oilers. Wichita tied the game via Michal Stinil at the 13:46 mark of the first to end the opening frame at 1-1.
Wichita scored the only two goals of the second period, once on a 5-on-3 power play from a wrist shot at the top of the slot by Connor Lockhart and then Spencer Blackwell from a one-timer on the back door to set the game at 3-1 Thunder going into the third period.
Tulsa’s comeback effort began with Tyler Poulsen driving the net on the left wing side before lifting a backhand shot over the short-side shoulder of Davis to make it 3-2 Wichita. Poulsen recorded his 100th professional goal with his third-frame finish. Oliver Tarr tied the game with just under seven minutes left in regulation as he bore down on the net from the right wing, protecting his body position with his left arm and handling the puck on the forehand with his right arm, eventually lifting a one-handed shot in past Davis to even the score.
Tulsa on the power play in overtime, saw Dickman slam the puck past Davis from the top of the blue paint to win the game, helping defeat his former team and advance Tulsa to a 5-1-0-0 record.
The Tulsa Oilers will head to Kansas again to face the Wichita Thunder on November 7 at INTRUST Bank Arena. Puck drop is set for 6:05 p.m. CT.
