OILERS OUTGUN LIONS IN BACK-AND-FORTH BOUT
Josh Nelson strikes twice in opening five minutes, Ryan Lautenbach scores team-best fourth game winner in 5-3 win over Lions
TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa Oilers, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks and the AHL’s San Diego Gulls, and powered by Community Care, defeated the Trois-Rivières Lions 5-3 in front of a crowd of 14,019 at the BOK Center on Saturday night.
Josh Nelson knocked home the opening chance of the game, beating Hunter Jones off a rebound created by Tyler Poulsen 1:08 into the action, placing Tulsa up 1-0 after being shut out by Jones on Wednesday night. Nelson added a second goal 3:02 later, tucking an in-stride snapper inside the far post, extending Tulsa’s lead to 2-0. Justin Michaelianwidened the margin to 3-0, finishing a feed from Poulsen — his second primary assist of the period — with 4:42 left in the first frame.
Isaac Dufort answered 6:39 into the second, scoring a near mirror of Nelson’s second tally to make it 3-1. Cedric Desruisseaux capped a three-goal unanswered run spanning 2:05, netting a pair of skilled goals at 7:38 and 8:44 to level the game 3-3. Ryan Lautenbach squeezed the puck past Jones from below the goal line with 1:47 remaining in the second period, restoring Tulsa’s lead 4-3. Tyrell Goulbourne ripped a long-distance rebound goal 18 seconds later — the final goal in a 5-3 victory.
Both goaltenders stood tall in the third period, with Vyacheslav Buteyets stopping seven shots to turn in his second clean period of the night.
The Oilers head to Rapid City, South Dakota for a three-game set against the Rush. Game one-of-three at The Monument begins at 8:05 p.m. CT.
