Oilers win race to grab IIHF international and versatile defenseman Olivier Dame-Malka

 

TULSA, Okla. —The Tulsa Oilers, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks and the AHL’s San Diego Gulls and powered by Community Care, announced the addition of French International defenseman Olivier Dame-Malka 

 

Dame-Malka, 34, returns to North America having spent the majority of his career overseas in Europe. The 5’10, 194 lbs. defenseman played most recently in the Estre Liga with Budapest Jegkorong Akademia, notching five points (1g, 4a) in eight regular season games, adding two assists in six postseason appearances.  Dame-Malka also played 14 games with Frisk Asker in Norway and eight with HC Banska Bystrica in Slovakia last season.  

In 201 regular season Ligue Magnus games, the Montreal, Quebec native registered 131 points (46g, 85a) with Dijon, Rouen, Grenoble, Nice and Anglet. Dame-Malka won the league, French Cup and Continental Cup with Rouen in 2015-16 and was ranked as Ligue Magnus’ most penalized player in 2014-15. The veteran of France’s top league captained Nice during the 2019-20 season and totals 31 points (10g, 21a) in 59 playoff games. 

 

The left-handed blueliner is not new to North America, returning to a resume of 65 points (23g, 42a), 329 PIM and a +33 rating in 165 ECHL games split among Florida, Ontario, Bakersfield, Toledo and Wheeling. In addition, Dame-Malka has 21 career AHL games with the Hamilton Bulldogs. 

 

Born in Canada, Dame-Malka is eligible and represents France at IIHF level, appearing on 38 IIHF-sanctioned occasions with Les Bleus. 

 

Prior to turning pro, Dame-Malka played in the QMJHL, logging 114 points (33g, 81a) and 376 PIM in 226 regular season games while earning above a point-per-game average in the postseason with 24 points (10g, 14a) in 22 games.  

 

The Oilers begin the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7:05 p.m. at the BOK Center, hosting the Rapid City Rush. The first 1000 fans will receive a free, Tulsa Oilers flag.
