OILERS SNAG POINT IN FIRST-OF-THREE IN IDAHO
Gage Alexander stops 28 of 31 enroute to Third Star in overtime loss
BOISE, Idaho —The Tulsa Oilers, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks and the AHL’s San Diego Gulls and powered by Community Care, snagged a point in overtime during a 3-2 overtime loss against the Idaho Steelheads on Wednesday night at Idaho Central Arena.
Alec Butcher opened the scoring with an even-strength goal 5:47 into the action, slipping the puck between Jake Kielly’s wickets to set the Oilers up 1-0. Patrick Kudla released a shot from the right circle behind Gage Alexander, tying the game with 6:58 left in the first period. Lynden McCallum put the Steelheads up 2-1 3:58 later, tipping home a power-play shot from Matt Register. Blake McLaughlin tied the game with 12 seconds remaining in the frame, redirecting a back-door feed from Dante Sheriff with 12 seconds remaining in the opening frame.
Neither team scored in the following two periods, sending the game to overtime 2-2.
Francesco Arcuri earned Idaho the second point of the contest with a power-play one timer 2:47 into the extra frame.
The Oilers and Steelheads square off again on Friday, March 22 at 8:10 p.m. CT at Idaho Central Arena.
