Oilers sign rookie defenseman after acquiring his rights from Fort Wayne
TULSA, OK — The Tulsa Oilers, proud ECHLaffiliate of the National Hockey League’s St. Louis Blues, announced Monday thesigning of defenseman Cam Knight.
Knight,24, joins the Oilers after making his professional debut with the Fort WayneKomets at the end of the 2018-19 season. Tulsa acquired Knight from Fort Wayneat the beginning of the offseason, fulfilling a futures deal that saw GarrettLadd join the Komets at the beginning of the 2018-19 season.
Knightappeared in four regular season games and three postseason contests for the Komets,tallying three assists in his four regular season outings.
“We arelooking forward to good things from Cam Knight,” coach Rob Murray said. “He’scoming over from Fort Wayne to complete the deal for Ladd. He had a strongcollege career, and he had a taste of the ECHL last year.”
The 6’1194 lbs. Reading, MA native becomes the second defenseman to join the Oilersfrom the University of Alabama-Huntsville, reuniting with college teammate JohnTeets. Knight registered 45 points (6G, 39A) in 131 games for the Chargers,leading all defenseman with 19 points during the 2016-17 season.
Knightplayed one season in the NAHL before attending the University ofAlabama-Hunstville, compiling 33 points (9G, 24A) in 60 games. Knight’simpressive points total and +19 rating earned him NAHL All-Rookie First Teamand NAHL All-South Division Rookie Team honors.
TheOilers host the Kansas City Mavericks to open the regular season on Friday,October 11th at 7:05 p.m. at the BOK Center. Opening weekend will then see theAllen Americans come to town on Saturday, October 12th, before the Oilers closeout the weekend with a Sunday matinee game against the Rapid City Rush at 4:05p.m.
