OILERS BLANK WICHITA ON ALZHEIMER’S AWARENESS NIGHT
Devin Williams earns league-leading fourth shutout, as Tulsa takes down rival Thunder in first of two meetings this weekend.
TULSA, OK – The Tulsa Oilers extended their winning streak to three Saturday with a 3-0 shutout win over the Wichita Thunder on Alzheimer’s Awareness Night at the BOK Center.
The Oilers scored first, when Eric Drapluk skated into the slot and fired a shot under the blocker of Nick Riopel. Rookies Roman Ammirato and Sam Wilbureach picked up their first pro assist on the goal. Tulsa held that 1-0 lead after one period of play.
Neither team was able to score in the middle frame, as the goaltenders stole the show. Riopel stopped all 11 shots he saw, while Devin Williams stopped 8 shots for a two-period total of 17. The Oilers maintained their one-goal lead after 40 minutes.
Ammirato set up Evan Richardson for the second Oilers goal early in the third period, and Adam Pleskach made it 3-0 at 12:41 of the final stanza. Williams completed his league-leading fourth shutout, stopping all 23 shots he faced.
The Oilers and Thunder will wrap up the weekend series at 4:05pm Sunday on the York Plumbing Ice at the BOK Center. Fans will have the opportunity to skate with the Oilers players after the game on the ice. A limited number of skates will be available for rent, but fans are welcome to bring their own.
