OILERS HEAVILY OUT-CHANCE AMERICANS IN NARROW LOSS

Ognev records first career multi-point game for Tulsa, but Oilers comeback stopped short in 3-2 loss in Allen.

Box Score

ALLEN, TX – The Tulsa Oilers outshot the Allen Americans 42-18 Saturday at the Allen Event Center, but were narrowly defeated 3-2, as the Americans extended their unbeaten streak to 13 games in regulation.

The Oilers held a 16-3 shots advantage in the first period, but the two teams finished the first 20 minutes of play without a goal. Jonah Imoomade his first start for Tulsa, and only saw three Allen attempts make it on goal in the frame. Americans goaltender Jamie Murray was busy in stopping all 16 Oilers shots.

The Americans scored first early in the second period when Bryan Moore fired a shot into the top of the net on a rush up the left wing. Allen then stuck on their second power play opportunity, when Moore sent a shot through a screen and in for his second of the game to give the Americans a 2-0 lead after two. Tulsa received a late power play on a major boarding penalty to Allen’s Derek Mathers, but the Oilers were unsuccessful on the opportunity. Mathers was given a game-misconduct for the infraction.

Dmitri Ognev capitalized on an Allen turnover and ripped a shot under the crossbar, spoiling Murray’s shutout and bringing the Oilers to within a goal, but Tyler Barnes answered to give the Americans a 3-1 lead shortly thereafter. Ognev helped setup the next Oilers goal that Dylan Hubbs tipped into the net from the edge of the crease, but Tulsa’s comeback bid came up short.

Murray stopped 40 of 42 Oilers shots in the win, and received the game’s first star, followed by Moore and Ognev. The Tulsa rookie recorded his first career multi-point game in the loss.
