Americans goaltender stops 38 of 39 Tulsa shots Friday as Oilers current skid hits six games.

Box Score

ALLEN, TX – The Allen Americans defeated the Tulsa Oilers 5-1 on Thursday night, behind 38 saves from goaltender Riley Gill and four points from defenseman David Makowski at the Allen Event Center.

The Americans opened the scoring with 3:42 left in the first period, when former Oiler Gary Steffes skated into the Tulsa zone, cut into the high slot, and shot the puck over the glove of Oilers goaltender Colin Stevens. Tulsa made it 1-1 before the first break, when Wes Cunningham fired a shot from the point on the power play that fooled Gill.

The Oilers outshot the Americans 18-9 in the middle period, but fell behind 3-1 heading into the third. Allen scored 3:18 into the frame, when Chad Costello redirected a centering pass into the net on a power play. Greger Hanson fired a shot under the crossbar for the third Americans goal with 4:23 left in the second period to open their lead to two.

On a delayed Tulsa penalty, Makowski tipped in a shot from the point to pad Allen’s lead to 4-1 in the first five minutes of the third period. Makowski also had three assists in the game. Josh Brittain added an empty net goal late to complete the scoring.
