OILERS ACQUIRE EXPERIENCED DEFENSEMAN MARTELL FROM ACES

Goaltender Kevin Carr shipped to Alaska after two seasons in Tulsa

TULSA, OK – The Tulsa Oilers, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets and AHL’s Manitoba Moose, have acquired experienced defenseman Brandon Martell from the Alaska Aces in exchange for goaltender Kevin Carr, as announced by Oilers Head Coach Jason Christie on Friday.

Martell, 27, enters his fourth full pro season and arrives in Tulsa with 180 games of ECHL experience. The Andover, MN native finished the 2015-16 season in Alaska, where he scored one goal and added two assists in 15 games for the Aces. Martell started the season in Wichita, where he compiled eight points (five goals, three assists) in 40 games for the Thunder.

The 6’3, 212 lbs. defenseman has also played for the Kalamazoo Wings, Rapid City Rush and Evansville IceMen during his pro career. He played four seasons of college hockey at Ohio State University from 2009-13, where he skated in 62 games for the Buckeyes.

Carr, 26, spent the last two seasons in Tulsa, where he posted a combined record of 51-37-6 in 97 appearances. The goaltender from Unionville, Ontario went 21-21-2 in 2015-16, with a 2.39 goals-against average, a .911 save percentage and three shutouts. His 2,616 minutes in net for Tulsa last season were fifth most in the ECHL.

The Oilers begin their third ECHL season October 15th when the team travels to face the Wichita Thunder. The Home Opener is Friday, October 21st, when Tulsa begins its ninth season of play at the BOK Center.
