Tulsa, OK– Although the Tulsa Oilers would outshoot the Missouri Mavericks 24-19 on a Tuesday night in Independence, none of their shots would find the back of the net and the Oilers would be shut out in a 3-0 loss.

The Oilers penalty kill showed up big in the first frame against a Mavericks squad who moved the puck well and set up a number of chances in front of goaltender Kevin Carr. With neither team able to produce on power play opportunities, the contest remained scoreless through one period.

A fight between Mathieu Brisebois and Andrew Courtney would break out in attempt to liven up a scoreless second period. Brisebois would lose his helmet at take a few to the head from Courtney.

At the end of 40 minutes, Tulsa owned a total of 15 shots three failed power play attempts. The Mavericks would trail in shots by one at 14 and four power plays.

The 9:51 mark provided a Missouri Mavericks goal by the ECHL’s fourth ranked goal scorer Jesse Root. Root shoved the puck between Carr and the pipes to score his seventh goal against the Oilers this season. Tyler Barnes and Trevor Ludwig took assists on the first goal of the night.

A one timer by Sebastien Sylvestre on a backdoor pass from Matt Finn gave the Mavericks a 2-0 lead over the Oilers.

With 53 seconds to go, Tanner Fritz (in mid-dive) made a sweeping pass to Reed Seckel who found an open net to seal the Missouri shutout over Tulsa, 3-0. Parker Milner took the win in between the pipes for the Mavericks.

With a record of 25-18-3-2, the Oilers are back at home on Friday night when they host the Evansville Icemen for the first and only time in Tulsa. They will continue their three games in three nights with the Allen Americans in the BOK Center on Saturday and Sunday.

One of the best parts of being a part of the Tulsa Oilers family, is the opportunity to really get to know the players on a personal level. Brady Ramsey is a forward for the Tulsa Oilers. If you would like to see the interview, head over to our youtube channel, Youtube.com/tulsaoilers to get more behind the scenes looks at our players and awesome clips from our games!  Don’t forget to head over to one of our upcoming games where you can catch Ramsey in action.

Ramsey was introduced to hockey because he’s a Canadian. Hockey in Canada is like football in America, only bigger. Canada is winter. Ramsey fell in love with skating, and hockey, on an outdoor rink. Ramsey knows his practice has a significant impact in his abilities today. As a child, he dreamed of becoming a professional hockey player. He grew up watching his favorite NHL players in his hometown and on TV and knew that he wanted to be in their shoes, or skates, one day in the future.

As far as preparing for a game, Ramsey says for most players at this level it starts the day before a game. He makes sure to get all cozy in bed so he can get his optimal rest to prepare for the upcoming battle. Game days are always the same. The day starts with a morning skate, each player has their own routine between morning skate and arriving for the game. Now his game day routine is second nature to him.

Ramsey is a player that sticks up for his teammates. If the team moral is low, or the scoreboard doesn’t weigh in the Oilers favor, Ramsey is the one that bring the energy to pump the team back up. As a two-way forward, Brady enjoys getting the opportunity to play on both ends. He loves getting to “bare knuckle box” if he’s mad at something. Don’t we all wish we could just take a few minutes in a penalty box when someone pushes us to our breaking point?

He says the best way to get into the game is to get into it and have a lot of fun. The fans are loud and always look to see the goals, hits, and fights. He loves getting to play in front of the the Tulsa crowds, so make sure you add coming to an Oilers game to your things to do in Tulsa.

Make sure you grab tickets for the game on Friday, February 19th where you can snag an adult jersey to wear to upcoming games. Don’t forget about the jersey auction on Saturday, February 20th where you can grab your own game worn jersey! That’s not all, make sure to bring your jerseys and other memorabilia to the post game skate on Sunday, February 21st where you can get on the same ice the Oilers defend after the game. Many of our player will be on the ice, skating around, to take pictures and sign autographs. How many players can you get to sign your gear next weekend? You’ll want to add this to the top of your things to do list because it will be the last chance to skate with the players after the game during the regular season!
