WEEK IN REVIEWThe Oilers claimed four out of a possible six points after a three game weekend going 2-1-0-0. Tulsa faced the Idaho Steelheads for the first time in franchise history and the two squads split a win a piece. The 14-game winning streak set by Missouri was broken on Sunday night with an Oilers victory.

Thursday night the Oilers softened the Idaho Steelheads with a 4-2 win, where newcomer Aaron Harstad scored his first goal with the Oilers after being in Tulsa, OK for less than 24 hours.

Teddy Bear Toss Friday resulted in a loss for the Oilers. Carr stopped a penalty shot from Cole Ully on his ninth consecutive start and the Steelheads remained perfect on the 5-on-3 advantage (3 for 3 this season).

The weekend finale on Sunday against Missouri ended their 14-game winning streak, 4-3. Tulsa broke their season high SOG record of 32 (@ Allen 11/21) after the second period with 33—41 on the game.

LOOKING AHEADThis weekend the Oilers will go back-to-back against division rivals, the Wichita Thunder, on Friday and Saturday at the BOK Center to finalize their 8-game home stand. Saturday’s game will be Ugly Sweater Night for the Oilers—the specialty jerseys will be auctioned off after the game. Tulsa is 2-1-1-0 this season against the Thunder.

CARR CONTINUES TO CONTINUEGoaltender Kevin Carr has started in each of the Oilers’ last 10 games and ranks fourth in the ECHL. With 891 minutes played this season, Carr is 8-7-0-0 with a 1.95 goals against average.

CHRISTIE HOLDS RECORDThis weekend Head Coach Jason Christie broke Hall of Famer John Marks’ ECHL record for most coached victories. Coach Christie now holds the title at 493 wins in the span of 13 ECHL seasons (Peoria, Utah, Ontario and Tulsa). Christie’s teams have won 40 or more games eight times, and he has led his squad to the Kelly Cup Playoffs 10 times.

BROWNIE POINTSRight-winger Dennis Brown continues to climb up the point ladder. Brown leads the Oilers with 14 assists and has recorded a +12. The Western Michigan University product spent the last two seasons under Coach Christie’s wing as well when he played for the Ontario Reign. In 47 games during the 2014-2015 campaign, Brownie registered 14 assists total—his current number in only 19 games with Tulsa.

STREAK STRIKERSOn Sunday the Oilers snapped the Missouri Maverick’s franchise historic 14-game winning streak. With three multi-point players (DeSalvo 1g/1a, Clark 1g/1a, Konan 2a), a strong power play (2 PP goals) and a quick goalie, the Oilers broke down the hottest team in the ECHL 4-3.

AARON AQUIREDLast week, the Tulsa Oilers were assigned rookie defenseman Aaron Harstad from the Manitoba Moose. The Wisconsin native has played in seven games for Manitoba this season and now three for the Oilers where he has produced two goals since his arrival. The Colorado College product was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the 7th round (187th overall) in 2011.

Below is an Excerpt for a Tulsa Oilers Game

Jeff; When they’re skating toward me, I cannot see any of their numbers. I’m in a corner here, folks. Hard to see when the players are skating up the ice toward me. I can’t even see their jersey sleeves. Now back into the Wichita zone. Here comes Bloomquist with it. Behind the goal goes Bloomquist. A little help there from Wong. Bloomquist again. Bloomquist in the circle. Bloomquist tried to turn it around in the slot. He’s getting bothered there. Bloomquist there still with control of the puck. He’s getting hauled down on the near side by Springer. Bloomquist gets it to Wong. Wong steps in front. Oh! He has it poked away. Wong tried to get it to Konan. Now we got a penalty. It’s going to go against Tulsa. Oh my! A penalty against Tulsa in the overtime.

Wong’s going to get called for tripping. Or hooking. Which is it? Tripping it is, yes. Wong’s going to go to the penalty box for tripping with 2:40 left to go in the overtime. When you have a penalty you’re not going to go 3 on 2. A penalty in the overtime means now it’s going to go 4 on 3. Wichita will put an extra man on the ice and Tulsa will play with 3. That’s the way it’s going to be here for the next 2 minutes of this overtime. There’s 2:40 left in the overtime period barring any goal, of course. Brandon Wong gets called for tripping at 2:20 of the overtime period.

Now we’ll have this face off coming up here in the, I believe it’s going to be in the Tulsa zone. It’ll be another Oilers Rusty Robert’s Bail Bonds penalty kill with Brandon Wong in the penalty box. Give Rusty Robert’s Bail Bonds a call at 918-592-BAIL. The face off now coming into Tulsa end with 2:40 left to go in this overtime period. Fans are yelling that the linesman to drop the puck. One thing that hasn’t changed since my previous time with the Oilers in the Central Hockey League is linesmen sure do wait a long time to drop the puck. My goodness. They wouldn’t have to kick so many guys out of the face off if they would just go in there and drop the puck. Now they do. Back to the action. I used to referee hockey, so I think I can say a little bit about that. I refereed for many years back in New York before I moved to Tulsa. Did it for a few years in Tulsa then decided to get out of the game.
